The Fire Dept. - L'Oeuf D'Or [leda014]

Published

Originally released in 1995 on Billy Childish's Hangman's Daughter label, this is the universally acclaimed debut LP of the legendary (in as much as they didn't actually exist) Hove (ex-Cambridge) group. Some call it garage, some call it punk, some call it garage-punk, and others leave out the hyphen. Who cares?! This is uh da bombe.

I have been a fan for quite awhile going back to the Headcoats. Even though he was playing in the 70s I never heard any of his music until the mid to late 80s. I was a teen throughout the 70s and had a great garage rock / garage punk collection. If I didn't already know who it was I would swear It was recorded back in the 70s. A great retro sound. I have seen some of his artwork in my travels through cyberspace. He's also a pretty good painter.

Although I like the groove and sound on the instruments, the vocal is too artificially out front and way too clean to really match the garage of this track. All in all a nifty find, though...

Blazing hot punk with sixties/eighties style.Plain-spoken lyrics & driving bass & drums throw the guitar at you in a very pleasing way.If your into that kind o'thing, this is sure to please you.
